It’s a gift to be simple

On a recent trip to Los Angeles, a bus-tour seatmate asked where I was from. I answered, “Niskayuna,” expecting the usual blank stare that would trigger me to add, “a suburb of Schenectady, home of General Electric, which, along with Troy and Albany, is part of New York’s Capital Region, an area about 150 miles north of New York City …” Instead, the woman next to me, who turned out to be a historian, said, “Ahh, Niskayuna! Home of the Shakers.”

The Shaker Heritage Society stewards the Church Family site, home of America’s first Shaker settlement and the final resting place of Ann Lee, the group’s charismatic founder.

POSTMKTG has served the Shaker Heritage Society quietly and behind the scenes (as would be appropriate) for the last few years. We have helped the group keep its website updated and secure. Recently, we were called to reconfigure the site to more easily allow event promotions, like its annual Gala, and to port the site to a new server, to improve site speed and provide a more robust backup and archival service, critical for an organization tasked with maintaining and offering access to historical records.

POSTMKTG serves several regional historic sites, including the Shaker Heritage Society, Historic Cherry Hill, and the Underground Railroad Education Center.
